The 70th anniversary of the Friendly Invasion of New Zealand by U.S.Armed Forces 1942 – 1944 will be held in Kapiti, Porirua and Wellington from Sunday 27 May to Thursday 14 June 2012.

Salute70 Opening & Mulled Wine Concert Jan Preston/Mary Gow play 30/40s piano, Paekakariki Memorial Hall, 2.30pm.

 Monday 28 May

Memorial Day at Queen Elizabeth Park, Mackays Crossing, 9.45am to 1pm.

Memorial Church Service Old St Paul’s, Molesworth Street, Wellington City, 3pm.

 Tuesday 29 May Memorial Dinner at Paraparaumu Golf Club, 6pm to 9 pm. 

 Wednesday 30 May

Salute 70 Bus Tour of Porirua Camp sites, 10am to 4.30 pm and Movie Screening  “War Stories” by Gaylene Preston Lighthouse Pauatahanui 10am – 4.30pm Assemble @ Pataka.

 Thursday 31 May

Reception hosted by Minister of Veterans Affairs Nathan Guy, 10am, The Grand Hall, Parliament, Wellington

Paekakariki Market Day 9am -2pm

Village Dance 8pm St Peters Hall.

Salute 70 Community Story Telling at Pataka Museum, Porirua (10am – 3pm)

Salute 70 Community Story Telling at St Peter’s Hall, Paekakariki, 9.30 am -12.30 pm.

Ngati Poneke 75th Anniversary Concert (pm.) Wellington.

Salute 70 Run/walk through route March in Mangokotukutuku Valley

Trilogy “Memory Lane” Tour

Free US Marines Band Concert at Southwards Museum in the afternoon.

 Wednesday 13 June

Free US Marines Band Concert Te Rauparaha Stadium in Porirua (am).

 Thursday 14 June

Official NZ Government 70th Anniversary, Wellington, Wreath Laying @ National War Memorial.

the Kapiti Golden Group is having a wine tasting on Friday May 11th at 3pm. Ex President Jim McKensie has generously donated some expensive European wines for this fund raising event. There will be nibbles to accompany each wine, and a good time is to be expected, as always at our events. The cost is $15 pp if you wish to attend please email us;
