Hello Everybody, August Luncheon was attended by 91 of our members, and was generally well enjoyed by all. There was a hiccup with the meals when the the last table and myself found out that they had run out of potatoes. We did receive some compensation for this error, and the people concerned will be offered a half price meal next month.
We were delightfully entertained by Kapiti Brass Band who played all our old favorite tunes, and it was good to have them back again. Their drummer is Dennis Taylor, one of our esteemed members. There was a donation box on Wendy’s desk at the exit for people to make a charitable offering to help the Band teach music to children. A big Thank You to all our members who contributed to this very worthy cause.
For anyone who may be interested Dennis plays with a Jazz band at the Kapiti Club, I believe on the last Sunday of the month, in the afternoon. If you are a member of the Kapiti Club you may wish to pop down and listen to the Jazz, which I am told is great event, well attended and supported.
The July bus trip to Rimutaka Prison on July 18th was great success, everyone was intrigued with the way things are done in jail. They all enjoyed the three course luncheon, which had been prepared by the inmates. Below are a couple of official pictures of the prison interior.
Our next day trip is on 19th September, a visit to Trash Palace in Porirua, this a unique chance to see how our trash and recycling is processed. This will be a very interesting and informative trip. The tour takes approximately 1 1/2 hours, with a lunch to follow at the Porirua Club. After lunch you can either socialize at the club or go shopping at the nearby mall, before we return.
